Hike the main trail to Mt. Margaret and then hike off-trail back to the main trail on the way back, practicing navigation skills.

The focus of the hike will be:
Creating a route, on and off trail
Ten essentials and how to use them, including having contacts for your hike
Navigating with a map and compass and using Gaiagps.com
Using a SPOT unit (www.findmespot.com)
Where to look for wildlife activity, including mountain lion activity
Becoming more BOLD about exploring all public land, on and off trail
This is an easy to moderate hike with 2/3 of the hike on trail and 1/3 off trail. It's a great opportunity to practice navigating off trail, learn about the 10 essentials every hiker and backpacker should carry. Here is a great video to get started:
