ABOUT WILD NATURE MEDIA
WILD
Let's embark on a journey into the heart of the untamed, where the wilderness reigns supreme and the essence of nature pulses through every leaf, rock, and creature. I'm David Neils, and I invite you to join me in celebrating the WILD aspects of our planet – those untouched, unbridled realms that remind us of the raw, unfiltered beauty of the natural world.
One cannot truly appreciate the wild without recognizing its power to inspire awe. Stand beneath towering trees in an old-growth forest, and you'll feel the weight of centuries in the silence. Hike through rugged mountain ranges, and you'll witness the grandeur of landscapes shaped by the slow dance of geological forces. Nature, in its wildest forms, is a testament to the unimaginable forces that have shaped our planet over eons, and it beckons us to be humble witnesses to its majesty.
The wild is not just a place; it's a state of being, a way of existing in harmony with the rhythms of the Earth. Take a moment to observe the dance of a butterfly or the intricate patterns of a spider's web, and you'll see the delicate balance that defines the wild. Each species, no matter how small, plays a vital role in the intricate tapestry of life. The wild teaches us that every living being has a purpose, and together, we create a symphony of existence that is greater than the sum of its parts.
The dance between predator and prey becomes an integral metronome and lies at the heart of Nature’s harmony. And the more wild that dance is, the greater the balance of all things in nature. The study of mountain lions for the last twenty years has been a gift to learn about what defines the behavior and patterns of this magestic apex predator. But we must go beyond that moniker. Mountain lions are also a keystone species. In the early years of this study I realized that mountain lions occupy some of the best wildlife habitat I was sauntering through. Over time I learned they play an enormous role in creating this habitat by ensuring ungulates don’t camp in the riparian areas. And that’s just the tip of the keystone iceberg.
So, my fellow adventurers, let's raise our metaphorical binoculars, lace up our hiking boots, and venture into the untamed landscapes that define the essence of our planet. Let's revel in the sheer wonder of the wild and find inspiration in its untamed beauty. After all, in the heart of the wild, we discover not only the magnificence of nature but also the wildness that resides within ourselves.
DAVID NEILS
Wild behavior of truly wild wildlife in wild places
Growing up in Libby, Montana, the very northwest corner of the state, David Neils started studying wildlife seriously at age six. Back then he didn’t have any trail cameras to monitor wildlife activity. The only option was tying dental floss across wildlife trails. He was most interested in apex predators. Visions of grizzlies, wolves and mountain lions would cause him to toss and turn at night and he wondered what they were doing when he wasn’t around.
Well, he moved up from the dental floss days and after being face bumped by a male mountain lion in the Never Summer Wilderness of Colorado he decided to lean in and learn everything he could about this apex predator. For the past twenty years he has spent time weekly in mountain lion habitat. He developed a system that allows him to accurately map mountain lion activity throughout the western United States, Canada and Chile. He offers a one-on-one Mountain Lion Workshop for those who are interested in applying what he’s learned after 30,000 hours in the field.
Completely wild footage showcases and celebrates the wild we crave. No lures, dogs, helicopters or other aids are used. All Wild Nature Media footage is the real deal.
